Loosing inches in playtime | Beanstalk Health Centre Family-friendly ...

Returning to your pre-baby dress size is a lot more fun with your baby involved.? It?s also a great way to bond with your child and can strengthen your baby?s mental and physical development.? Choosing a range of daily activities that engage each of your child?s five senses is important and with a little creativity can help you get in a work out.? Playtime is all fun and games, but if improvement is important to you then you?ll find it rewarding to keep track of their (and your) progress as you go along.

Being active with your child benefits both you and them by creating early mental development for your child while helping you achive your personal fitness goals. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) states that from birth to the age of four a Childs brain retains a vast amount of information in such a short span of time. Keeping a constant verbal and physical communication with your baby helps stimulate brain activity at a very early stage in growth.

Remember you are your child?s first and best toy! The CMA gives examples on how to get active with your baby from birth up to the age of three to four. For example, in a child?s first year, bath time is essential for playing games, exciting their sense of touch, and helps their instincts for discovery to grow. Have a different game each day for a different one of the five senses, and then gradually integrate them with each other. As you spend a lot of time together it?s the perfect opportunity to have a bonded workout either at home or in a program like Salsa Babies(tm) or Salsa Tots(tm).

According to research by DSW Fitness, babies that exercise at an early age generally develop better speech, appetite, and sleep habits. These exercises can be done with Mom or Dad, and gives mothers a chance to recondition the muscles that may have weakened from her pregnancy. A few of these exercises can be found at: www.dswfitness.com/docs/Mom&BabyExercise.pdf

Find joy in sharing with your child, hearing their laughter, and feeling great.? You can have a lot of fun together and both benefit from long-term fitness and development advantages with some daily activities with mom and baby in mind.

Come out to one of our drop-in Salsa Tot classes at Beanstalk Health Centre during the March break to try some parent/child activities.? Go here to find our schedule of March Break events.
