WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama starts a three-day bus tour Monday that will take him through North Carolina and Virginia.
Obama carried both traditionally Republican-leaning states in the 2008 presidential election and they will be critical to his campaign's success again in 2012. But the president's poll numbers are sagging in both states, as they are nationally.
The president's trip will focus on selling the public on his jobs initiatives. Now that Senate Republicans have blocked passage of the full $447 billion bill, Obama and his Democratic allies are pushing for votes on individual aspects of the plan.
The tour starts Monday morning in Asheville, North Carolina.
