How to Find High Quality Patio Metal Awnings | Russel Metals ...

When looking at buying an awning for your home, you have many choices. You can choose from many designs, styles, and materials. This article is going to focus on the characteristics of awnings that are made from aluminum and metal. Many people all over the world have aluminum awnings in their home. Let?s take a look at some of the reasons why.

1. Durability and Toughness

If you want to cover your porch, patio, deck, or window with something that is going to last for many years, then a canopy made from metal is a great choice. This material is known for its ability to withstand the elements such as intense storms, rain, snow, and just about anything else. The sturdy frame and solid material also protects your outdoor area from anything that may damage is such as a falling tree limb or anything else.

A well constructed cover made from aluminum or metal can easily last several decades. As long as you keep up with cleaning it every once in awhile, you will not need to replace it for many years to come.

2. Maintenance

Some types of awnings require much more maintenance than others. For example, copper awnings need to be cleaned regularly with a special solution. Awnings made from canvas need to be replaced every few years because they can be prone to having small tears or rips in them.

This is one of the main benefits of aluminum and metal based canopies. You can just get a bucket of water and wash it off every once in awhile and that is just about all you need to do. It will not stain or tear like other types such as canvas, wood, or copper can. A good quality metal or aluminum material will not need much care other than the occasional washing or shining to keep it looking brand new.

Where to Get One?

You can get this type of patio or porch cover from many places. A great place to start looking is a local home improvement store such as Lowe?s or Home Depot. They usually have a huge selection as well as installation services to go along with it. You can also find many local companies that will often give you an estimate at not charge. You can also find many if you do a search online. This is great if you are comfortable doing the installation yourself.

Corrosive Power Or Conscience? | Business 2 Community

The business of football got uglier when information about the bounty for pain scandal surfaced. This scandal is currently decimating the management, income, and personal brands of the New Orleans Saints. The ironically named Saints are not the only team of people to pool money and put people in the cross-hairs, in hopes of destroying opponents? bodies. By destroying their opponents? bodies, they also are destroying their careers, and future ability to take care of their families.

The desire to do harm with the physical, financial, or mental gifts you have been given ? or via the wherewithal you?ve worked to acquire ? is a powerful motivator when you are unrestrained by your own conscience or an outside controlling force that has a conscience.

Why would someone agree to pay-for-pain?

Competitiveness, fear, jealousy, greed, and a general belief that any way to win puts a win on the board all tumble together. This soup of malevolence often creates not just one bad person, but it often draws together an anti-social society of thug-comrades. These people work together powerfully in sports, politics, business, even a sorority until someone shines a light on the perpetrators. Then it takes someone with some authority to do something to stop them.

But such an intervention is rare. Victims aren?t enough. Outrage isn?t enough. The power to do something about these powerful people is rare.

Malice is occurring everywhere

I?ve had to stop watching most news channels during these Republican primaries because I can?t stand what the candidates are saying about each other. The mockery, bullying, outright lying, and the push polls ? are sickening.

What these same candidates are saying about our President of the United States is sickening. It?s racism, competitiveness, fear, jealously, greed, and a general belief that any way to win puts a win on the board. These people and their supporters, including 5 mega-billionaire donors, have created a near master race of antisocial people with no one to stop them.

At the same time, we are having some kind of national discussion ? with YouTube ads ? about why kids bully other kids. This is ridiculous. Kids bully kids because they see adults do it to each other constantly. They see their parents do it to each other, neighbors, other family members, people who disagree with them, teachers, and the family pet. These kids are bullied in their own homes. They see antisocial behavior on the web, on television and radio. And have you seen reality TV? Even the food channel? Chopped, crushed, turn in your apron, you loser.

I have listened for the last time to radio?s number one talk show host, the man with the biggest personal brand in the business, because he demands that women who use contraception to be forced to appear in pornography that we broadcast on television ? among other filthy insults. Republican candidates? mumbling ?that?s not the language I would use,? isn?t even close to the NFL commissioner firing the Saints? coach, suspending Saints management, and getting ready to go after the players. Yes, Republicans have the power to shut their broadcasting hatemonger by disavowing him if they would ? it?s what the advertisers are trying to do by shunning this man?s program and his audience by withdrawing their ad money. But they won?t because their brand strategy has hate pulling in followers.

What can be done in such an environment?

You cannot be in business without being affected by all this: the punishing anti-social climate we are now in. You can join it or you can eschew it.

I can?t keep coaching you to assiduously monitor your mind and your mouth so you positively influence those around you ? without admitting that it?s getting uglier out there.

What to do? Be a beacon. Make light and even love a part of your personal brand. Align with power that seeks to do the most good while doing well. And when you have power, wield it with conscience.

Musical elite honor banjo great Earl Scruggs

By Tim Ghianni, Reuters

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Moments before Earl Scruggs' silver-colored casket was escorted from the historic home of the Grand Ole Opry Sunday, a video of Flatt & Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys performing the old gospel tune "Precious Memories" played on a screen above the stage.

Reuters

Ricky Skaggs and The Whites perform during musician Earl Scruggs' funeral at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., on Sunday, April 1.

The last song of a video montage saluting Scruggs, who died Wednesday at age 88, "Precious Memories" showed him singing without a banjo in his hands, unusual for a man who revolutionized the way that instrument was played.

Scruggs' pioneering picking style -- delicately tapping the strings with three right fingers, coaxing precise melodies from the instrument -- forever changed the way banjo music was perceived.

Yet, while this final song played, the only banjo visible was Scruggs' Gibson Mastertone propped below the screen on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium, the former long-time home of the Grand Ole Opry.

"I can't even begin to explain the depth and sound of that instrument sitting out there," Vince Gill had said moments before he teamed with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless for "Go Rest High on That Mountain."

Vince Gill, center, Patty Loveless, top, and Ricky Skaggs perform during the funeral service for banjo great and bluegrass pioneer Earl Scruggs.

Gill's personal lamentation -- he wrote it about his brother's death -- has become the symbolic finale at Nashville's funeral services of the legends of country music.

The death of one of the last and most-beloved pioneers of the musical form brought tears to Gill's eyes as he said of his mentor: "That friendship is something I cherish like none other."

For two hours Sunday afternoon, the former Union Gospel Tabernacle -- the original name of the Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville -- returned to its roots as fans, friends and family jammed the pews for a service heavy on spirit, scripture and spirituality.

Gill's performance and testimony of love capped a celebration during which musicians saluted Scruggs by performing his songs or by demonstrating and testifying to his influence on them.

The Del McCoury Band -- bluegrass superstars whose style is a direct descendant of the music pioneered by Scruggs and his longtime partner, Lester Flatt -- set things off with "Take Me in your Lifeboat," one of that duo's songs.

That was followed by Skaggs and The Whites' performance of "Gone Home." Skaggs showed another side of Scruggs' genius by playing the lead guitar, note for note, the way the world's most famous banjo player had played guitar on that song.

The common denominator shared by the acts taking time to play, preach or pray was that they were friends of the man they were "sending home."

Bela Fleck, an acclaimed banjo "modernist," described how his "life was never the same" after he first heard Scruggs' banjo when he turned on "The Beverly Hillbillies" television show and heard "The Ballad of Jed Clampett."

Scruggs and Flatt, who died in 1979, are best-known in popular culture for that song about "a man named Jed" and for "Foggy Mountain Breakdown," popularized in the gritty 1967 film "Bonnie and Clyde."

After a spoken tribute by Charlie Daniels, Emmylou Harris teamed with Gill and Jon Randall Stewart for the heavenly "The Other Side of Life."

"I was thinking how lucky we all are to have lived at the same time as Earl Scruggs," Harris said.

After The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's John McEuen teamed with Jim Mills for "The Carolina Traveler" and Grand Ole Opry announcer Eddie Stubbs pronounced the eulogy, the stage was turned over to Marty Stuart, who performed "Who Will Sing For Me," a Flatt & Scruggs examination of death.

That led up to Gill's teary "Go Rest High" farewell to Scruggs, which preceded the video salute that concluded with "Precious Memories."

While the crowd jumped from their pews and applauded each performance, the longest and loudest ovation came for the man in the silver-colored casket, just before he was escorted from the auditorium where he first performed in 1945.
